The Effects of Chemicals on Clay Stabilizers
Petroleum-containing reservoirs are complex mixtures of solids, liquids and gasses. Most reservoirs are conveniently classified into two categories, i.e. sandstones and carbonates. Any appreciation of the role of clays in these reservoirs requires some understanding of the parameters that affect hydrocarbon production.
The requirements for an aqueous fracturing fluid are listed below:
- Will not significantly change the swelling characteristics of the clays
- Will not disperse clays
- Compatible with fracturing fluids and other additives
- Easy to mix and use
- Economical and effective in low concentration
